Summer Reading: "How to Rule the World"

"There are few people to whom tyranny is not delightful" Samuel Johnson

conquer the world, controlling people, being the supreme dictator, or at least sel the master of a country or company, to have people who tremble at your name and tell you all the time how great you are. What would your bad jokes, or always celebrate the brilliance of your ideas. All we ever wanted it, the detail is that many of us we desire, and few ever attempt to try to be a supreme dictator. Well, dear reader, "if the idea of \u200b\u200bamassing great wealth and orchestrate the lives and minds of others you love" the book "How to Rule the World. A handbook for the aspiring dictator" ("As the World Governor. A guide for the aspiring dictator") Andre de Guillaume is for you. With a great deal of irony and cynicism, the author shows the common features present dictators, how they stay in power and qualities that a person should have to control, but the world, YOUR world.
With a gallery of strong men and women to emulate, as well as a decalogue of things you can do as a dictator and a democracy, which I quote below: Close
  1. a television station or newspaper.

  2. Refusing to pay accounts. Forget

  3. apply for permits to the planning office.

  4. Have your profile on a postage stamp.

  5. Climate Change yesterday. Write

  6. guaranteed bestseller.

  7. Leave a double-parked car.

  8. Make the trains run on time (referring to Mussolini).

  9. Getting a taxi after 3:00 AM.

  10. really change the government.

Of course, there are other suggestions that I find most interesting at this stage of constitutional reform, for example in the chapter "How to Run a Country" ("How to manage a country"), the author suggests three things the would-be tyrant can do once on the throne to give the idea that doing something for his subjects, and these are:
  1. Rename of some major cities ("the" Queen of Guraira Repano "says something?).

  2. Change Flag (add stars to the flag or change the horse's coat of arms is also true).

  3. Rename the country (Republic, ahem, Bolivarian , eg, Venezuela).

Of course, when one reads these things, you can not avoid a sense of deja vu ... The author also gives ideas on how to maintain and amass more power, relations with other despots, the importance of propaganda and the power of "idea", ie the leitmotiv environment which turns your despotism, from the "This country must be governed by God" of Khomeini, the "In five years this country will be self-sufficient in food" Stalin ... "This is a peaceful but armed revolution" can also be a good idea, IMHO.

Finally, in one chapter of Guillaume reminds us that the masses usually what they want is football (or baseball) and bread, are "leaders those who call and make the revolutions. Definitely required reading in these times of constitutional changes.

Flesh Color Moles On Head

Summer Reading: Harry Potter and the Deadly Hallows. Returning

on July 21 came the novel that concludes the saga of "Harry Potter", of course, I bought it. Unfortunately I decided to buy on Amazon, which made this came home with a week apart but with a saving of around € 4.00 with respect to the price that was achieved in the libraries of Milan. The worst thing is that I should wait until my wife finished reading it, because the big fan she is, not me. I must say I really I enjoyed the book, although sometimes the reading was a bit heavy, and the way in which Rowling clarifies the various doubts that appear throughout the series I was not entirely satisfactory, but it will do is her character, she can do it and break it as you want.

There are a couple things I want to comment on the book, and not just opinions regarding the plot or speculation type "what if ...?" , the first thing I leave to the spoilers , while the latter will leave the "fanboys / girls" that abound on the Internet. The point of this post is to talk a bit about the reaction the public to this book, divided between contempt and bigotry more exacerbated, with little room for indifference, which is not every day. Let's start with the fans, which are easier to criticize, then move on to the spoilers. Fans

.

One of the things that characterizes the fan, or fanboy / girl (to use the English term) of this century is the ability to wait in line for days waiting for the occasion of his fanaticism, as guys who were left waiting for days waiting for the premiere of new episodes of "Star Wars" films or "The Lord of the Rings "(boys, could get tickets on the Internet), or those who killed to go to electronic stores to buy a console, the X-Box 360, Playstation 3 or Nintendo Wii (boys, could reservation one month in advance, online shopping or waiting to arrive most stores). Fans of Harry Potter could not be less, so that various bookstores throughout the world organized special events such a great date: starts at midnight, people who were disguised to read the book, children and adults sharing a book to read. And this, in my opinion, gave a special touch: all this chaos was due a book. But still, do not understand why there were people who could not wait until it opened bookstores in your regular schedule. This type of obsessive-compulsive behavior, frankly, I can understand.

But my lack of understanding as to why this behavior is not to say that it adheres to the end, it is ordinary people as one who is having fun in an unconventional manner. In short, they are trypan its sheath without disturbing anyone. Unfortunately some people do not see it that way and prefer to make life miserable for these fanatics, these are called spoilers, spoilers that are a kind of satisfaction in ruin morbid note these fanatics simply because they do not understand the book you see the cuff.

Killjoy.

These people are the guys who set out to publish a so-subtle plot of the book, and to reveal its final and things that happened within it, with intent to annoy people. Are those who call the book "commercial waste", and suggest that their success is due solely to the quality of the marketing department of your publisher. Whoever thinks so, sins of ignorance: the first volumes of the series came without much advertising, published by Bloomsbury, a small British publishing house that dark not available at that time, the means to promote marketing of large magnitudes. The big marketing agent Harry Potter books was the word of mouth, little Timmy was the book and asked his parents who bought it, then told her friends, Amy and Johnny, how good it was, and they asked their parents to buy it. And so, word of mouth, the book became a success, being translated around the world. For when Harry Potter becomes the commercial phenomenon that is now, with movies and other, already published the first four books in the series. However, critics highlight their weaknesses bitter argument, say his universe is somewhat dystopian and dark, and contains a veiled way certain prejudices, does not mean that the book does not have merit or that reading is discouraged, it just means it's not perfect.

But let us return to the spoiler, for me they are even more puzzling that the fans, what pleasure can there be in ruin someone reading?. I do not understand those who have a morbid pleasure in telling people how to finish the book, or tell them they are victims marketing reading and these books will not endure the test of time, etc., Etc., Etc. They seem not to support someone enjoy reading these books. I think they are the same as living just to talk bad about Dan Brown books.

Indeed, among those who seem to hate this series of books is a quite rare species and I remember reading in a news blog, which one commentator to the news of the launching of the book said something like, "as may worry about such things when there are children dying in the streets. " I guess the person who wrote this is someone who does not eat, drink, or leave because there are hungry children in the streets and everywhere there is poverty in Venezuela. In fact, spits up to make a gender comment: someone so concerned about the welfare of humanity should not worry whether you have time to halarle ears who is awaiting such frivolities. At the end of the day, what else could have known if not constantly engaged in care for the poor starving children?.

The Book.

After criticizing both ends of those who buy and read these books, I can only add a few criticisms of this book:
  • In this book, Ron is particularly unbearable.
  • Hermione is not only the nerd / geek resident, by the way has a maturity and resilience beyond her years. Neville
  • eats in this book.
  • The deaths of the characters are too dramatic.
  • Voldemort is pure ego as a villain.
  • The romantic tension of the book is badly carried at times by Rowling.
  • Dumbledore's obituary is too watery, and Skeeter's interview too sensationalist.
I have other criticisms, but if you @ my friend, you liked the other books in the series, do not waste your time, buy it and enjoy it, not the best of the series, but it's pretty nice.

Wedding Guestbook Diy Ideas

vacation.

Yes, I'm reinstating my daily work after having two weeks Vacation, one of which were spent with my wife on the beach, while the other is devoted to be thrown into our house. And with batteries installed and without intention of returning, here we are in college clinched several details for the thesis, which is about increasing the fateful day when I have to give it (not because they want to, but because it just scares me .)

Anyway ... this summer did not cultural holiday, but the beach. We went to the Puglia (Apulia in English), a region that corresponds to the heel of the Italian boot. Why go there?, Firstly because it was cheaper Other beaches. The only downside was having to travel 1200 km to reach the village where we stayed, Torre San Giovanni, located almost on the tip of the heel of the boot. Due to this distance so long, we stopped in the seaside town of Pescara, just halfway, where employees of the hotel where we stayed overnight to see our passports Venezuelans said they were near a " Venezuelan pub. "

Following his directions, we reached the place and found the site more than a pub was a tagua sells Venezuelan fast food, such as arepas, empanadas, cachapas , and hamburgers venezuelan style, with French fries, tomato, lettuce, lots of sauce, onion, cheese and egg, as well as hot dogs and other varieties of Venezuelan burger. The site itself was inspired by one of the streets who are hungry in our country. The site, run by its owners, enjoys great popularity among tourists, local and Venezuelan immigrants. To our surprise, the owner told us that the Abruzzo is a region where a large colony of Venezuela, which confirms one of the guests of the site: it seems many have chosen to return to the land of their parents / grandparents try your luck, given the economic situation in Venezuela today. Full of food we had no testing time (we're too lazy to make empanadas), we rested that night and end our tour.

In the heel of the boot ...

Once we headed south, we had no major problems, except for a rather large queue up to Bari, then move to the barren landscape Puglia, where we only observe olive groves, wheat and grapes. In fact, the region where we were (Salento peninsula ) is typical products olive oil, pasta and wine particularly strong. Fortunately, our stay was the only interesting development that had long and the beaches were particularly beautiful, white sand and clear water. Of course, do not limit ourselves to only swim at the beach and sun, we went to Santa Maria di Leuca, the southernmost point of Italy Eastern and Lecce, a city quite nice and quiet. Of course there are photos of all that, they just give you a look at my Flickr page, where you can see them. Then leave two of them.

So well, officially, I returned to work.
